The KBF Africa Prize rewards outstanding contributions to development in Africa, initiated and led by Africans. It seeks to draw public attention to the many inspirational stories, challenges and successes emerging from the African continent.
The Prize is awarded every other year. Beyond its monetary value of 200.000 euros, it offers its winners unique opportunities to increase their visibility and promote their cause to international audiences.
A candidate may only be nominated by a third party. This can be any person who knows the merits of the individual or the organisation which s/he wants to nominate well, but has no financial or personal interests in it.
For example, the nominator cannot be a board member or a member of staff of the organisation, or a relative of the person s/he wishes to nominate.
In the Rules of Procedure of the Prize, you will find a list of possible nominators. This list is not exhaustive.
The Foundation’s Board selects the Laureate on the basis of the report of an independent Selection Committee.
To guarantee both a certain degree of renewal and the required continuity, the composition of the Selection Committee is modified slightly every time the Prize is awarded.
The following questions guide the Selection Committee throughout the process:
